This is the big one. The project that will haunt me until I finish it. :) Originally started when I was in high school, this game is still in development - but of course restarted many, many times! This entry specifically represents the original iterations of the game from 2007-2012 which were all built based on the same planning doc. When this game is seen again, it will be quite different! Splynch is a run and gun platform game with a cartoon-like atmosphere and an emphasis on mixing and matching power-ups. The 2007-2010 concept planned on having "7.5 worlds" of action alongside a massive array of abilities and a myriad of odd self-referential secrets. In a world so much like our own that it is our own, there is a gigantic corporation known as Telefantastica. Originally founded as a television company, it soon grew to enormous proportions and proceeded to put a foot into pretty much every industry on the planet. With power comes greed, and in their latest money grab they are trying a very experimental reality TV show idea. In this show, an artificial creature is placed into a real-life "video game" and the viewers take bets on whether he will survive. Telefantasica has used the latest technology to bring their ideal main character to life. This creature is named Splynch. He's short, blue, and packs a powerful punch using a laser beam he can fire from his eyes. As the most complicated and intelligent creature ever created, he'd surely be treated royally for this show, right? WRONG. Telefantastica only wants money, and they're treating Splynch poorly. Splynch is a naturally hungry creature but he is not given as much food as he needs. He is also confined in a cell deep in Telefantastica's headquarters. He is only let out to shoot episodes of his show, and on set he is treated like a dumb animal. A start-up company that has set up an office nearby, Monochrome Nightmares, has taken note of this blatant abuse. The kind-hearted staff have broken Splynch out of his cell. They have placed food and mysterious power-up items in a roundabout path that will lead Splynch to their headquarters where they wish to treat him well. However, it won't be that easy. Telefantastica is enraged that Splynch has escaped, knowing that losing him could cost them billions of dollars in profits which could instead end up going to Monochrome Nightmares. They have quickly dispatched an army of robots (initally planned for use in an indefinitely delayed world domination scheme) to destroy Splynch-- if they can't have Splynch, neither can anyone else! These days, the game looks nothing like what is presented here (even Splynch, the character, has been redesigned a bit!), but this is where it all started and a small glimpse into what the future may hold. (What's a Splynch, anyway? Well, the name is just something that sounded "small and squishy" to me. After years of writing and deleting lore, I have a better idea of it all now, but that's a secret for another time!) Note: While I've said the game has been in development since 2007, that's only "technically" true. I've taken breaks in between, and while I keep playing with the concept, nothing is, like, super actively being worked on right now. But the dream will never die!!! |
COIN
2010 - Full Game - Created using Construct Classic

You are a bandit from the 1800s. You have stolen so many coins that you have run out of coins to steal. Your next move? Rob the future...
COIN was created for a competition held on TIGSource back in 2009-2010, the Assemblee Competition (Part 2). In the first part of the competition, community members created a bunch of game assets. Then, in part 2, developers would make a game using only those assets. Hence, this uses art and music by people that aren't me. That let me focus on developing the gameplay itself and getting the hang of Construct Classic, which I was only just starting to use at the time. COIN didn't win or anything, but I had a lot of fun making it! |
